One of the things that I can't bring myself to accept inspite of being somewhat on the not-so-conservative side of things, are men marrying women who are way younger than them. Don't get me wrong. 3, 4 years is perfectly fine. Heck i might even accept 6 to 7 years age difference. But 10 years and above is really pushing the limits man. i'd recently came across an editorial piece by Annette Dudley whose work echoes my sentiment to the core with regard to this issue. Her story was abt her best friend, May who at a young age married David, a man 11 years her senior and had begun to regret. May's biggest decision in her life was also her worst one. Here are some of the excerpts that struck a chord with me. To the men out there trying to land themselves a sweet young thing, don't be a wuss, grow some balls and get a lady your age for crying out loud. MY BEST FRIEND IS A TROPHY WIFE by Annette Dudley "Being youthful and the liberal thing she is, she didn't mind being friends with people who were much older than her. She thought of them has streetwise and life-experienced and looked up to David as a role model of sorts. David wasn't the best looking of men.. but he was wealthy. He ran a reasonably successful business that brought in a tidy sum. Tidy enough to purchase a huge house in South Florida and a spanking new black Mercedes..." "...May was bewitched. Her mind started run wild and thought how David could buy her the world and satisfy her every material need and desire. May knew she was an attractive girl, being on of the hottest cheer leaders in highschool and also home-coming queen. And David did show that he was interested in taking this 'friendship' to another level. After a couple of months of dating, May and David tied the knot at at lavish wedding. David spared no expense and invited the whole world to see his grand wedding and his pretty young wife..." "..the planned honeymoon to Paris never happened. They fought and fought and fought so much that there was never peace in the house. David blamed her for everything that didn't go right. David felt that he was the man. And as the man of the house, he was never wrong. He would alwyas fault May. Always..." "She had made the biggest gamble of her life and lost miserably at it and was paying the price for it. Back then she some how knew David wasn't the one for her. He couldn't connect with her emotionally and couldn't communicate well with him. But May felt these were insignificant matters and that they could be culvitivated over time once they got married. She decided to choose Stability over all these. David has money and money could give her the stable and luxurious life that most women could only dream of..." "...and felt David didn't give a damn about her feelings. His chavunistic ego was simply raging all the time. He was possessive and unreasonable. In fact, all David wanted to prove was that he could 'buy' May over to him. To prove to all his friends that he was rich and that he could have anything he wanted, even women." "It wasn't his looks that put many women of his age group off, but rather his character. His male chavunistic ego reeked so badly throughout him that he just couldn't get a girl to like him. Although he made himself a tidy fortune, he was uncouth, ill-mannered and unrefined. His preferred method of solving problems was using his fists and not his head. He thought for himself first and May wasn't even a close second in his mind..." "David knew he had money. And because he had money, he knew that even if he couldn't get women he wanted, he was able to tempt younger women who had a higher tendency to swoon over his wealthy stature. Women his age were more mature and by now know what they want in life. They wanted to be loved by a man who thought the world of them, who cherished and loved them. A man who could connect with them emotionally and be by their side in times of need. These women didn't care so much about money. David knew that. And he wasn't getting any younger. So he turned his attention to sweet young things who more susceptible to his monetary charms..." "Although married, May was still a young girl and was spirited and playful at heart. She longed for long romantic walks along the pristine shoreline, have sweet nothings whishpered into her ear. She wanted to be kissed and hugged like it would last forever. She wanted adventure and romance in her life with her man. But David being much older had a totally different view. He wanted an obedient wife. One that would list to his every command. One that would be at his beck and call. David didn't give a damn about romance and adventure. He'd choose his armchair, a six pack and Saturday Night Football over all that crap, even over May. To him, all May was good for was for showing of to his buddies and associates... and for the occasional sex." "...she felt her life was in shambles because on one hasty mistake. She no longer longed for stability. She longed to be loved..." "If only she thought it throught carefully. If only she has not rushed into her marriage with David blindly. If only she wasn't blind sided by this 'stability' that tempted her so greatly..." "If she had waited, she could have met a nice young gentleman who, although might not be as rich as David would have loved and cherished her and still be able give her the world. If only she had waited..." |
